People are generally not stuck because they don’t have answers. What is much more common is that they are stuck because they have too many answers, none of which quite lead to a resolution.
You think about the decision again and again. You make lists. You talk to people. You argue both sides in your own head. And somehow you are still exactly where you were a month ago.
At some point, the problem is no longer the decision. The problem is the thinking loop.
When I work with people in coaching, we often discover that the issue is not that they cannot decide. It’s that they are trying to answer the wrong question.
And if the question is wrong, more thinking doesn’t help. It just makes the loop tighter.
Sometimes the most useful thing is not a better answer. It’s a better question.
